Budget Constraints Threaten Music Programs

Band directors in Knox County have done so much with so little for so long, that they are now expected to do everything with virtually nothing. The unfortunate fact of the matter is that funding for Music programs in our schools is, for all practical intents and purposes, non-existent. Money that should be available for instruments, uniforms, media, transportation, and general expenses is simply not included in Knox County's budget.

We could stop performing at football games, parades, and competitions. We could limit band membership only to those students who can afford to buy tubas and tympani. We could make band just another in-school elective and all go home at 3:30 every day.

That would be easy.

Our other alternative, the hard one, is to continue the traditions that have made our program so successful and enriched the lives of so many people throughout the years. That's where YOU come in. We need parents, grandparents, extended family, friends, teachers, alumni, and interested community members to join together and make sure our students have what they need to succeed.

What Can I Do?

We need volunters to serve on various committees, individuals, civic and business entities to sponsor specific programs, as well as general monetary donations. Anyone who wants to contribute something toward the enrichment of our program may do so by contacting our office at (865)579-8226, or by email at satterfieldc2@k12tn.net.
